The Dragon Who Found His Wings ~
Book 2 of the Mermaid Waters series
“The Dragon Who Found His Wings” reprises many of the beloved characters from “Swan Song” with new characters in a new adventure that addresses some real world issues.
The original was loved by readers aged 8-88 and has been critically acclaimed around the world, many likening it to “The Lion King” with black swans, “Wind in the Willows”and “Watership Down”.
The sequel focuses on a dashing young water dragon who is thrust into a perilous quest by a mysterious message that forces him to challenge his beliefs in order to save an entire wildlife community from certain doom. In searching for the fabled Koolewong, Swimmer the water dragon must transition from his disbelief in Killara (an ancient tree vital to the symbiotic existence of all life on the lake) to taking the biggest leap of faith of all if the wildlife community is to be saved and all is not lost.

The Dragon Who Found His Wings by Lynn Santer is an enchanting fantasy tale that follows the transformative journey of Swimmer, a young water dragon awakened by a mysterious calling. When an ethereal voice urges him to seek out a Koolewong, Swimmer begins an adventure that will test his courage and change his life forever. Guided by the wisdom of Killara, an ancient tree, he discovers that his quest holds the key to his community’s survival. As he faces increasingly dangerous challenges and the formidable opposition of Deimos, the king water dragon, Swimmer finds unexpected allies in the comedic pair of Lord Quacksalot and Precious. Set in the magical realm of Swamp Hen Island, this story weaves together themes of destiny, courage, and the power of believing in oneself.
Author Lynn Santer creates a richly detailed fantasy world that immediately drew me into its depths. I was moved by her thoughtful development of Swimmer’s character arc, watching him grow from an uncertain young dragon into a true hero through trials and tribulations. His whole journey really gets readers invested in every moment of his ongoing quest. Santer’s ability to balance serious themes with light-hearted moments, especially through the delightful banter between Lord Quacksalot and Precious, whom I adored immediately for their bold characterization and plucky dialogue, gives the story a perfect emotional tone. What impressed me most was how the author wove profound messages about community, bravery, and self-discovery into an adventure that is accessible and engaging for readers of all ages. Overall, The Dragon Who Found His Wings is an uplifting tale that reminds us of the importance of facing our fears and embracing our true potential. I highly recommend it to readers of all ages.

A note from the author, Lynne Santer…
Considering this book wasn’t even conceived of in May, I’m blown away by the review I received of “The Dragon Who Found His Wings” by an objective professional in the UK.👇🏼 She also read “Swan Song” (the prequel) in advance. “The Dragon Who Found His Wings” like “Swan Song”, which has been loved by people aged 8-88, is the best stocking filler by “Santer” (ho ho ho) you’ll ever find. 🤩
Review of the The Dragon Who Found His Wings

I loved the book, and all the time reading it, I had the image of a Disney-type film in my head. Your pacing is sublime, and the characters are so full of life. I feel I got to know each and every one of them so well; they shine through your brilliant dialogue, often laugh-out-loud funny. I love Lord Quacksalot; he is so beautifully rude, and the Koolewongs are something else! But the serious message behind the story is always there in the undercurrent, pulling us back to the horrors that our wildlife faces today.
“The Dragon Who Found His Wings” is actually the best book I’ve read in ages. If it isn’t a hit, I’ll eat my eucalyptus-leaved hat! Very well done, Lynn.
I adored “Swan Song” too. I think it’s so clever how you bring everything together at the end, beautifully resolved. I think that’s important in YA novels, but, honestly, this book is for EVERYONE! Oh, I especially loved the photos of the characters at the end. Fabulous!
Both books have everything you’d want in a novel: a strong opening, compelling characters, an absorbing story, great dialogue, conflict, arcing, and a satisfying ending.
I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but your books are truly exceptional, Lynn. I believe readers will love them
